Natural Zinc Sheet Metal – Product Information
Natural zinc sheet manufactured to EN988 is a versatile sheet metal suitable for fabrication, soldering and decorative applications. It is widely used for craft work, etching plates, stencils, roofing details, table tops and bar tops. At Metal Offcuts we supply natural zinc sheet metal cut to size with free trimming to your required dimensions.
This material is commonly known as titanium zinc. It is approximately 99.99% zinc with very small additions of copper and titanium, which improve strength, durability and malleability.
Natural zinc sheet is easy to bend, drill and solder, making it suitable for both practical fabrication and creative projects. We also supply a suitable tin/silver self-fluxing solder that works well when joining zinc components.
Zinc sheet can also be used as zinc plating anodes in electroplating processes.
For craft and hand-tool work, 0.8mm zinc sheet is especially popular because it can be shaped more easily than heavier gauges. When soldering zinc sheet, a high-wattage soldering iron of around 200W is recommended, as smaller electronics irons often do not generate enough heat.
Outdoors, natural zinc gradually develops its own matt grey patina over time as it reacts with the atmosphere through repeated wet and dry cycles. This natural weathering is one of the material’s most valued characteristics in roofing, cladding and exterior design.
For decorative interior pieces such as table tops, bar tops and feature panels, the surface can be sealed with beeswax to protect the finish and enhance the appearance.
Zinc’s primary commercial application is in architectural roofing and cladding, where its durability, workability and natural ageing properties make it a long-lasting building material.
The weight of 1mm thick zinc sheet is approximately 7.2 kg per square metre. If you need to calculate the weight of a specific sheet size, use our sheet metal weight calculator or view the sheet metal weight chart.
Natural zinc is the standard untreated finish in our zinc range. For aged or decorative zinc finishes used in architectural and interior design projects, please see the specialist zinc finishes available through Metal Sheets Ltd.
